Volunteer Some Time!

It doesn't take a huge commitment to make a big difference in someone's life.

Why would you want to volunteer?

It's fun, it's easy, it's flexible and it's rewarding. Our customer are warm, friendly people who like the same types of activities that you enjoy. All volunteers receive orientation and staff support to ensure that their experiences are comfortable and pleasant.

Why do we want you to volunteer?

Two key RSS goals are self-determination and community inclusion for our customers. Volunteers enhance our customers' quality of life by helping them be true participants in their community. It means a lot to know that they have people in their lives who care and who enjoy helping them plan events or develop new skills, or just spending time with them.

How can you volunteer?

Be a Buddy - individuals are paired with RSS customers to build ongoing relationships. The time commitment is very flexible. Activities may include calling, visiting, sending a note or taking a customer to activities in the community, such as sporting events, bowling, grocery shopping or just getting an ice cream cone! To be a Buddy, you must be at least 16 years old and have a valid drivers license.

Adopt a Home - groups of two or more can adopt a group home to visit, take on outings, help plan projects or parties, or send cards at holidays.

Plan a Group Project - groups of two or more interested in a one-time project can plan a party or event, plant flowers, bake cookies, play a game or create crafts. Creativity and involving the customers in planning the project are encouraged.

Youth groups with adult supervision (4H, scouts, school and church groups) are invited to Adopt-a-Home or participate in a group project.
